I don’t know how or why, but the jellyfish are dying. I take it back, I know exactly why. It’s because I need there to be jellyfish for a while longer this year. I finally got my experiment working, so obviously I need to be able to catch jellyfish to run it. However, I still don’t know how. They’ve all suddenly lost their oral arms. An old hypothesis is that they starve to death, but if you’re starving to death, it seems like a bad idea to get rid of your feeding apparatus. I'm tending to think it's either predation or parasitism, and either of those would be extremely interesting. Anyways, the countdown has begun. Not that that means anything… there have been many many false starts in previous years.
