I'm only allowed to report this now because there's good news at the end. J's had a really terrible time this last month. Everything that could go wrong did. He got the job with the Boarder Patrol, but had only three weeks notice to report for duty. Arrangements were made. We took his car to El Paso so that he'd have it at the academy. In the middle of all this, his grandma's condition went from bad to really bad, she passed away the week before Christmas. Finally on Christmas eve, he was disassembling furniture to put it in storage when the phone rang. It was the Natural Resources Police, his first choice job. They wanted to schedule an interview for 3 days after the day he was supposed to report in New Mexico. After much discussion, they admitted that the interview was a formality, and that all he had to do was not make an ass of himself. Decisions were made very quickly. Homeland Security was notified. He'd stay for the interview, even though there was a chance that he'd not get another chance with the Boarder Patrol. The interview was today. My boy is not an ass. He got the job! Yay!
So instead of moving to New Mexico and then Arizona, he'll be staying right here until he's finished with the academy. After that he may be assigned to a post anywhere in Maryland, which may still be far away, but not nearly as far as Arizona.
