So it's not exactly new years, but I've been procrastinating this afternoon by reading old blog posts, several of which listed resolutions from previous years. Also, my situation is going to change quite a lot next week when the boy starts training (not as much as it would have changed if he'd moved to AZ, but still it's a change). And in light of that, here are my February resolutions:
1) Start spending time in my own house. J and I mostly spend our time at his house because he has no roommates, and we're still not exactly getting along with mine. It would actually be much easier to hide out at the boy's house despite his not being there, but damn it! I pay rent and am entitled to use my house whether that makes others uncomfortable or not. Also, I'm just not entirely comfortable invading his house when he's not there. He's comfortable with it and has unprovokedly invited me to do so, but until such a time as we officially share space (which has come up, but is not on the table at this time), I think he's entitled to at least the appearance of more privacy than that. And finally, I think a little independence from him would do us both some good. I love spending my time with him, but more and more I'm finding that I don't know what to do with my time on the rare occasion that he's not around. I've decided that the way to figure it out is NOT to hide out in his house until he comes back every weekend.
2) I'm going to get back into some kind of respectable shape. I'm going to swim my butt off. I've already asked my mom for a waterproof MP3 player so that I can listen to yuppy, elitist NPR podcasts and audio books while I swim. And, in direct conflict with #1, I'm going to start using J's bowflex regularly. Remember what my thighs looked like when I was playing softball every day? Remember what my arms looked like after the summer I spent hauling dry cleaning around all week and (failing at) surfing all weekend? These are not reasonable goals, but I'd settle for half.
