Mooseberry Jam

Moose is here. She emailed earlier in the week, and next thing we knew, there were weekend plans, which is perfect. Perfect because I didn't have anything else going this weekend. Everyone I know is running a triathlon tomorrow, which means that they are no fun at all today. Also perfect because today was the first day of blueberry season! We went out to the patch thinking that we might not get that many because it's the first day of the season. But then we got there, and there were tons of berries. We picked 6 quarts between us in less than 2 hours.

We made blueberry limeade. With plenty of rum of course.


We made a double batch of jam. I forgot to mash the berries in advance, but Moose was a champ about turning the giant pile of sugar and berries into something jam-like.

And then we made a batch of blueberry ice cream to go with it.

The two went together beautifully.


And we still have two quarts of berries left. Tomorrow, blueberry pancakes? Or waffles? Or smoothies? Or maybe just more ice cream and cobbler?
