Knitting, drinking, and feminism

Last night J held a small get together at my house to watch the Democratic Presidential debate and to sign a petition in support of reproductive rights. There was supposed to be a picture of all of us knitting, drinking, wearing pro-choice stickers on our heads, and yelling at the television, but sadly, we were all so preoccupied with those activities that we forgot to take a picture. We came to the following conclusions:

  1. Any candidate wearing artificial hair (or real hair that isn’t his own) should drop out immediately.
  2. The same should apply to any male candidate who colors his hair. We were disappointed in ourselves for the double standard, but at least Hillary didn’t look stupid (except maybe for the pearls).
  3. We think there must be some relationship between having large ears and being predisposed to run for public office.
  4. The crackpot from Alaska should hang in there just to keep us entertained until the end of the primaries.
  5. We were happy to see that abortion issues beat Virginia Tech and gun control into the discussion but were rather bored with the answers.
  6. The afghan that I’m knitting as a gift is so ridiculously beautiful that I may not be able to part with it.

Our analysis concluded that the whole thing was otherwise uninteresting and did nothing to help or hinder any candidate. Perhaps we blame the format? Does anyone else have thoughts?
