Decision made

Unfortunately there was not enough interest in the '80s dance party on Friday, so all plans were cancelled. This made my decision to get up early and go to the beach on Saturday morning a much easier one. Kiri and I took our inherited parking pass and headed for Assateague Island National Seashore. Originally, we had planned to walk a couple of the trails that lead through the dunes and coastal forest, but once I saw the beach, all bets were off. It was the best beach I've ever seen on the East Coast...clean, not too crowded, clear blue water, light breeze, lots of sun. We swam, we slept, we swam some more. It was really funny for me because Kiri's from Washington state, and everything was new to her. It took me a while to get her to go in the water because where she's from, you just don't swim in the ocean unless you want to die of hypothermia. It was the perfect beach day, but we decided to go home a little early because we'd both had more than enough sun. On the way out, she stopped at the bathroom to change (you know I'm too hard core for all that, I drove home in my bathing suit full of sand). While I was waiting, I was watching a mom rinsing off the cutest little girl (about 4 years old). Her mom got her all washed off and set her down long enough to pick up a towel, and before she could grab her again, the little girl had raced back up the dune. She was so happy to be in the sand, and her mom was trying so hard to get her clean. I couldn't stop laughing, even when the mom gave me the "you are no help!" look. That's my kind of kid.
